At A Glance

The YMCA has a rich history as the pioneer of group swim instruction, opening its first indoor pool in 1885 and creating the nation's first structured swim lesson program in 1909. Today, that legacy lives on through a comprehensive aquatics program that puts water safety at the core of everything we do. Because drowning remains a leading cause of accidental injury and death—especially among young children—learning basic water competency, survival skills, and risk awareness is a crucial life skill. Swimmers can progress through safe, technique-focused swim lessons designed to build confidence, test their speed and endurance on the competitive swim team, or earn professional credentials through lifeguard and CPR certification courses. Whether you are building basic water confidence or training for a career in aquatic safety, the Y provides a supportive environment rooted in over a century of water safety leadership.

Swim Team

The YMCA Swim Team  offers young swimmers a supportive, competitive environment to build speed, endurance, and advanced stroke mechanics. Building on foundational lessons and pre-swim team preparation, the program focuses on race techniques, flip turns, and sportsmanship, helping athletes develop athletic discipline and confidence both in and out of the water.
