Dear YMCA Members,
“Darkness cannot drive out darkness: only light can do that. Hate cannot drive out hate only love can do that”.
Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.
As a YMCA movement, we have always stood in favor of the statement above. We have promoted togetherhood for years because as a community based organization we want to make sure that we create a community that we will all love to live in. Not only us but also our children and grandchildren.
Camp Fox board visit on Wednesday, August 7 was an uplifting experience for our new board members as well as seasoned board members and myself as always. To see the children getting into activities that definitely build their leadership skills and teach them the ability to live with people who are coming from very different backgrounds is something that is unforgettable. By the way, I am sure I mentioned this before we have had the best camping year maybe ever. We have positively influenced the lives of over 1500 young adults during this year’s camping season. I am very proud of our Camp Department, our Senior Director, Ray Calame and his volunteer leaders of 265 who left their work to be camp leaders and directors driven only by passion to make a positive difference in the children lives.
On another note, healthy lifestyles requires a personal commitment nobody can do it for us. We have to always focus on creating the discipline of eating right and exercising on a weekly basis. Always remember that one day of exercise is better than no days of exercise. Two is better than one, three is significant and five is very significant. I know time is a rare commodity but remember investing in yourself is a very important cause.
Best Regards,
George Saikali
