Youth Fitness and Dance

We offer a variety of youth dance and fitness classes that are the perfect place for youth to learn new skills and gain confidence!

In our youth ballet, dance and yoga classes, participants will learn proper technique, coordination and movement in a fun, creative and supportive space!  


Youth will also fall in love with our fitness classes where they will learn new skills and confidence through practice and competition in the safe and nourishing environment of the YMCA
.

Registration for the next month of classes begins the last week of the current session, unless otherwise noted.

Youth Ballet
Creative Movement: Age 3-5
Designed especially for boys and girls! This class uses a variety of dance styles, dramatic play, props and music and focuses on physical expression, rhythm and body/space awareness.

Pre-Ballet: Age 3-5
This class provides an introduction to basic ballet and tap movement and terminology. This is a fun class for young dancers exploring beginning technique, performance styles and dance imagery.

Beginning Ballet: Age 6+
This class covers beginner level ballet and tap movement and terminology, and features traditional ballet barre and center work combined with slightly more complex tap/jazz. This class has a greater emphasis on proper technique, terminology, poise and expression.

Advanced Beginning Ballet: Age 8+
This class covers ballet and tap for the 2nd year student, and begins to incorporate more complex combinations with a greater emphasis on building strength and muscle memory. Dancers are encouraged to contribute creatively and take responsibility for the choreography they are learning. Students will work towards correct technique, connecting steps with dance terminology and maintain focus throughout the class.

Beginning Tap: Age 6+
Introduction to basic tap dancing for boys and girls. This class incorporates tap, jazz and a variety of other dance styles to create a fun and energetic class.


Youth Dance
Youth Zumba
Let loose and explore the wonderful world of dance through youth Zumba! We learn and practice basic dance moves and directions, play games, explore creative movement and get a great workout all at the same time! Your child can improve on rhythm, coordination and social awareness, all while expressing themselves through dance to the music they love!

  2. Zumba Junior: Age 3-5
  3. Kids Zumba: Age 6-14

 
Youth Hip Hop: Age 6+
Learn the latest hip hop moves, choreographed to today's most popular music.


Youth Yoga
Kids Yoga: All Ages
Through storytelling and creative movement, your child can explore and improve on strength, coordination, balance and flexibility. Participants will learn the basic yoga poses, breathing and relaxation techniques in a fun and friendly environment.

Youth Karate
Karate: Family Friendly, Ages 5+
All fitness levels are welcome! Tenshin-Kai Karate is perfect for youth because it is a Martial Art in a true sense. It teaches internal as well as physical strength and your child will be taught in a manner that promotes peace, respect, honesty and discipline.
Youth Fitness
Youth Fitness Class: Family Friendly, Ages 9+
Learn proper techniques for strength, cardio and flexibility from our Fitness Instructors in the Healthy Lifestyles Studio!
